Yesterday, I reported that we did not see the anticipated iPhone 3G unlocking application from the iPhoneDev Team, The iPhoneDev Team finally released their highly anticipated tool to software unlock the iPhone 3G. Initially there was a 0.9 version but they quickly released an enhanced version (0.9.1) which fixed several bugs that prevented some users from getting the unlock working.
As you can see from the version number, this is still consider a Beta class software, therefore the usual warning of using it at your own risk still applies. Of course, there is always a certain degree of risk when hacking your iPhone.
Note that you will need to add one of the following Sources depending on which application you’re using:
- Cydia soource: http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/
- Installer repo: http://i.yellowsn0w.com/
If you do not know what “Cydia” and “Installer” are then you may want to take a look at my article on, 7 Things You Love to Ask About iPhone Unlocking. If that still does not help, then you really should leave this for someone with more experience in hacking the iPhone.
For the iPhone 3G users in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Belgium there is absolutely no need for you to use this tool unless your iPhone was not legitimately purchased from one of these three countries.
[Update: January 2, 2008]
The iPhoneDev Team has just released a new version (0.9.4) of the Yellowsn0w tool.
