Apple released a “minor” update to iTunes last night (July 15) and according to Apple’s Release Notes, there are suppose to be bug fixes.
With this latest version Apple has began its cat-and-mouse game with Palm. Among the fixes Apple mentioned for this version of iTunes is:
iTunes 8.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices
We will have to wait and see what Palm will do next. My guess is that they will do nothing and hope that Palm Pre users will put pressure on Apple, but if I am right, I think that will be a mistake on Palm’s part. They should be focusing on the end user of their own product rather than begin a fight with Apple that they most likely do not have the time for.
As in the past, anyone who owns an iPhone and requires the hacks for jailbreaking and/or unlocking their iPhone should beware of any iTunes updates.
Applying the iTunes 8.2.1 update may have ill effects on your ability to jailbreak and/or unlock your iPhone using the iPhone Dev Team tools.
If you are one of these iPhone users please stay away from this version of iTunes for the time being.
